Between July 23 and July 26, 2023, the 11th International Conference on FRP Composites in Civil Engineering (CICE) took place in Rio de Janeiro, organized by the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC). In this conference, the most relevant in the field of composite materials in Civil Engineering applications:

• Dr. Inês Rosa, a former doctoral student at DECivil and current researcher at CERIS, received the award for the best doctoral thesis developed in the last two years with the work "Fire behaviour of concrete structures reinforced with GFRP bars" (supervised by Professor João Firmo and co-supervised by Professor João Ramôa Correia and Dr. Mário Arruda). It was the first time that a doctoral thesis developed at a national institution received this important award.

• Dr. Lourenço Almeida Fernandes, a former doctoral student at DECivil, received an honorable mention in the award for the best doctoral thesis developed in the last two years with the work "Fracture behaviour of pultruded GFRP profiles: application to web-crippling phenomena" (supervised by Professor Nuno Silvestre and co-supervised by Professor João Ramôa Correia).

• Prof. João Ramôa Correia received the "President's Award" from the IIFC "in recognition of his distinguished services to the International Institute for FRP in Construction, for advancing the understanding and the application of fibre-reinforced polymers in civil infrastructure, in service of the engineering profession and society," and he was elected Vice-President of the IIFC for the biennium 2023-25.
