At the opening of the session, the president of Técnico, Professor Rogério Colaço, welcomed the recent results of Técnico's Civil Engineering Graduation placements (the 138 places available in the first phase were filled, with the Minimum Ranking Grade being equal to 139.5/200). Professor Luís de Picado Santos gave the lecture, professor at Técnico, entitled “Transport Infrastructure and Civil Engineering: A teaching, research and professional experience”. In this he presented his contributions to the design of transport infrastructure, materials and pavement mechanics, asset management (network conservation), dynamic traffic management and transport safety and future opportunities in the transport area.

The representative of the Architecture Student Center (NucleAr), Francisca Sampaio, challenged those present to discuss the future of the Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture at IST, and how to take advantage of the framework of this course, created within an engineering school.

The winner of the Professor Edgar Cardoso Award was alumnus Rodrigo Luís Santos Teófilo, who stood out for his academic performance in several curricular units in the area of ​​Structures in the Bologna Degree in Civil Engineering and the Bologna Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. The award was presented by Professor José Oliveira Pedro.

The ex aequo winners of the Álvaro Machado Architect Award were Bambou alumnae Emilie Hocepied (represented by her father, Denis Hocepied), Susana Figueiredo Ribeiro and Leonor Rodrigues Freire Antunes, distinguishing their performance throughout their academic career in the Integrated Masters in Architecture. The Award was presented by Professor João Vieira Caldas in the presence of the Executive Director of Fundação Montepio, Dr. Carlos Beato.

The winner of the Professor João Martins Award was alumnus João Manuel Vasconcelos Magalhães Pereira de Figueiredo. The award was presented by professor Luís Calado. This award distinguishes the author of the best dissertation of the Bologna Master's Degree in Civil Engineering in the area of ​​Structural Mechanics and Structures with particular emphasis on the domain of Computational Mechanics. The dissertation Confined buckling of rectangular plates was supervised by Professors António Manuel Figueiredo Pinto da Costa and Fernando Manuel Fernandes Simões.

The ex aequo winners of the Professor Manuel da Costa Lobo Award were alumna Ana Paula Rosa Silva Soares and alumnus Tomás da Silva Batista Rei. This was delivered by Professor Maria do Rosário Partidário. In the area of ​​Urbanism, Planning and Spatial Planning and aimed at students of Masters in Spatial Planning and Urbanism (carried out and supervised at IST), Civil Engineering (Urbanism, Transport and Systems profile), Environmental Engineering, Architecture, and other related master's degrees , this award distinguishes students who demonstrate solid scientific and technical training demonstrated by master's theses carried out on the subject. Ana Paula Rosa Silva Soares' dissertation is entitled Community forest management: policy and scale of action. A case study of the Serra de Monchique, Algarve and was supervised by Professor Maria do Rosário Sintra de Almeida Partidário and by CiTUA Researcher Joana Fernandes Matos Dias. Tomás da Silva Batista Rei's dissertation is entitled The Cycling Network project in the Municipal Master Plan of the Municipality of Oeiras: its role for the mobility of the school population and was supervised by Professor Nuno Manuel Sessarego Marques da Costa from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning and by the CERIS Researcher Rosa Melo Félix.

The winner of the Professor Alberto Abecasis Manzanares Award was student Sara Beatriz Correia Marques, which was presented by Professor António Pinheiro. The Professor Alberto Abecasis Manzanares Award, in the area of Hydraulics, Environment and Water Resources, is aimed at students of the Bologna Undergraduate and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and involves grades obtained in the disciplines of Hydraulic I, Hydraulic II, Hydrology and Water Resources, and Sanitary Engineering.

Throughout the award ceremony, several speeches were made to clarify for those present, especially the winners, about the origin of the awards, their history, their objectives and facts, sometimes personal, about the honored personalities. These interventions were carried out by Professors Luís Calado, Maria do Rosário Partidário, António Pinheiro, José Oliveira Pedro, João Caldas and Dr. Carlos Beato.

The Closing of the Session was performed by Professor António Pinheiro, President of DECivil, who congratulated the winners and those responsible for the Awards. He then pointed out the challenges that Civil Engineering and Architecture face in a society in permanent transformation and highlighted some of the measures being implemented by the Department's Management.
