On Friday, April 21, 2023, Técnico received a visit from a group from Tondela Secondary School, made up of fifty-three students and four teachers. The visit was organized by Núcleo de Apoio ao Estudante (NAPE), relying on the support of two Guides and an Ambassador to accompany the three sets of students into which the group was divided on its journey through various Departments.

After a brief presentation by NAPE, each group visited the facilities of the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources (DECivil), the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Técnico Innovation Laboratory – iStartLab.

At DECivil, each set of students and teachers visited the Laboratory of Structures and Resistance of Materials, lasting thirty minutes. The visits were guided by the General Coordinator of the Laboratories, Professor José Oliveira Pedro, and it was possible to see several tests carried out and in progress, namely reinforced concrete beams reinforced with fibres, profiles and connections between profiles of composite materials, a steel beam of large dimensions and stone masonry walls with various reinforcement solutions. They also had the opportunity to follow a tensile test on a fiberglass specimen whose deformation is monitored using a video strain gauge. Other points of interest for the students were the observation of a three-dimensional frame made up of fiberglass composite profiles and concrete slabs mounted on the seismic table, the wind test tunnel and a wooden structure taken from a wall of a "gaioleiro" building from the 18th century in Baixa Pombalina.
