Two DECivil professors visited Escola Secundária Eça de Queirós, located in Olivais (South), in Lisbon, belonging to the Agrupamento de Escolas Eça de Queirós, on April 16 .
Professor António Pinheiro presented various aspects of civil engineering to an audience of around 60 students, answering questions such as “What do civil engineers do?” and pointing out the future challenges that today's society faces, such as population growth, resilience to natural disasters, adaptation to climate change and the sustainability of the built environment.

Professor Carlos Tiago then demonstrated the effect caused in reduced models of two buildings due to accelerations at their base using a portable seismic table. In particular, the effect of base insulation on the structural behavior was observed.

DECivil is grateful for the opportunity it had to visit the Escola Secundária Eça de Queirós, particularly to Professor Anélia Gurova, with whom all the details of the visit were organized.
