DECivil launches documentary series “Engineering with Memory and Future”

“Engineering with Memory and Future” is the latest project by the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment at Instituto Superior Técnico, premiering on 1 October across its digital platforms. The documentary series brings together leading figures from the field of engineering to reflect on projects, decisions and transformations that have shaped Portugal’s territory — and on the challenges that lie ahead.

Across eight episodes, the series will explore topics including transport, the Lisbon General Drainage Plan, digital transformation, transport infrastructure, dams and water management, airport location planning and urban transformation.

The series features Professors and Civil Engineers José Manuel Viegas, José Saldanha Matos, Filipa Ferreira, António Monteiro, António Aguiar Costa, Luís Picado Santos, António Pinheiro, Fernando Nunes da Silva, Ricardo Veludo and Maria do Rosário Partidário, as well as Architect Luís Jorge Bruno Soares, bringing together different scientific fields and perspectives on how engineering transforms the country.

The first episode premieres on 1 October. From then on, a new episode will be released every Thursday on the DECivil website and YouTube channel, accompanied by content on the Department’s social media platforms.

More than revisiting projects and decisions from the past, “Engineering with Memory and Future” seeks to highlight accumulated knowledge and apply it to the challenges that remain ahead.

The engineering that shapes the country. And the engineering that will continue to transform it.
