Civil, Architecture and Environmental Engineering Department at Instituto Superior Técnico hosted a delegation from the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) for a meeting with professors and researchers specializing in earthquake engineering.

The visit aimed to strengthen scientific cooperation between the two institutions and explore new collaborative opportunities in the fields of earthquake engineering, seismic risk reduction, and scientific innovation applied to disaster prevention and mitigation.

The relationship between the China Earthquake Administration and Instituto Superior Técnico dates back to 1999, within the framework of a joint scientific program. In 2011, a CEA delegation visited Técnico to share experiences regarding the organization of the World Conference on Earthquake Engineering, which was held in Portugal in 2012.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for future cooperation, as well as the sharing of knowledge and scientific expertise in a field of great importance for public safety and infrastructure resilience.

The China Earthquake Administration is the agency responsible for seismic risk reduction in China, covering areas such as seismic monitoring, forecasting, early warning systems, disaster prevention and preparedness, scientific innovation, and public services.
